Luteinizing Hormone (LH)

Luteinizing Hormone
Luteinizing hormone(LH) is the last hormone to surge before ovulation and triggers the release of the egg. Ovulation Predictor Kits(OPKs) detect the surge of LH and will give a positive result typically 12-36 hours before ovulation occurs. LH can usually be detected in a woman's urine at any time during her cycle and women may get a faint line on an OPK at most times. It is the surge of the hormone that alerts women that ovulation is occurring shortly. An OPK is positive only when the test line is as dark or darker than the control line on the test strip.
